An introduction to Johnβs gospel
Johnβs gospel is a fantastic place to begin understanding who Jesus is as the eternal Son of God. How can a man born in first-century Palestine also be the second member of the Holy Trinity? How could this same individual, born in poverty, in a town never mentioned in the Old Testament, and a friend of the outcastes of society, claim authority over the entire cosmos and every human life and become the central figure of human history? Grab a bible and follow along.

The Human Story is a Battle Between Darkness and Light. A Battle We All Know To Well (John 1:6-18).
Alexander the Great made three requests for his funeral: that the best doctors would walk alongside his burial procession; that there would be a large representation of his wealth present; and most importantly... that his hands would be dangling loose over the side of the platform where he lay. Why? He wanted the world to remember that everything we acquire, all the power we attain, the influence we have, all of the things we achieve in this life, ultimately, stays here.

The Law Came Through Moses, Grace and Truth Came Through Jesus Christ (John 1:14, 16-18).
What is God's law? How does God's law affect our relationship with God when we naturally rebel against its standard? Is our position doomed? Is our life, in effect, an exercise in futility? Are we destined for judgment? God's response to these questions may not be exactly what you think. Grab your Bible and join me as we look at the relationship between divine law and grace.

Who Are You (John 1:19-28)?
IIn history, Julius Caesar landed on the Island of Britain sixty years prior to the birth of Jesus and tried to strong-arm the people of Britain into subjugation only to be met by total defeat. In John's gospel, the age-old battle between ancient Rome and Britain pales in comparison to the battle that is about to unfold in the life of Jesus.

The Devil's Always Break Their Own Tools (John 2:13-22)
Jesus was the perfect translation of the heart of God. That is, in Jesus, the full glory of God was pleased to dwell in human form. How is it that the Devil can come to believe that He can eclipse the love of God for humanity? How can individuals who claim to be God's leaders fall for the same folly? In this session, we will look at Jesus's response to those individuals doing the devil's will in corrupting places of worship as he braids a whip and chases a gathering of tyrants out of the temple.

βlet them then turn back and look for you. they will find that you have not deserted your creatures as they have deserted their creator. let them turn back, and they will find you in their hearts, in the hearts of all who confess to you and throw themselves upon your mercy, in the hearts of all who have left the hard path and come to weep upon your breast. gently you wipe away their tears. they weep the more, but now their tears are tears of joy, because it is not some man of flesh and blood but you, o lord, their maker, who remakes them and consoles them.β
Augustine, Confessions (New York, Penguin Books, 1961), 92.
